Fergus has a Grand River

We went walking in Elora and Fergus on Sunday.
S needed a couple of thermometers for her classroom so on the way home we decided to try the new Wal-Mart in Guelph. Our only other visit to Wal-Mart was a couple of years ago in Kitchener which left me with the impression that it was an inflated Zellers. So, anyway, after much trudging and enquiring we got a thermometer for about 5 bucks - then decided to go to the Canadian Tire across the street to check there as well.
Turned out that Canadian Tire had the exact same thermometer - for a buck cheaper! Don't think we'll be doing much Wal-Marting. Not till we're older anyway - I was impressed with the motorized wheelchairs there.

the freeze begins

How long will it last? Last year we had snow drops and crocuses (crocii?) poking up in mid March. Could be a short winter.

first snow

OK well not really the first snow - we actually had our first snow three months ago in mid October - but this is the first snow that is not going to melt in a couple of days. Fingers crossed.

We finally got a bit of snow that stayed on the ground overnight so we went out to Rockwood C.A. for a walkabout. This was the most beautiful thing I saw there.

There were a few cyclists out along the GORBA trail today but it was hard slogging - the ground isn't frozen yet and the mud holes plentiful.

Guelph Lake

Early morning at Guelph Lake dam. Usually the lake would be covered in ice and snow at this time of year. Seems strange and somewhat forboding. Noticed a humourous sign posted on the earthen bulwark "Keep off the dam slope".
