white violet

This is the first one of these I've seen so I'm guessing that it's an oxymoronic white violet. A delicate and beautiful little flower - the only one we saw as we walked along the Bruce Trail through the Silver Creek Conservation Area. We saw a couple of trees here that were easily over a 100 or 150 years old - more than six feet in diameter. Quite rare for this area, unfortunately.

This white violet is called "Viola canendensis" which is it's latin name or Canada Violet, the common name. I am always delighted to see this violet in the woods, thankyou for the photograph.

I try to "see" as much as I can and always am delighted with wonderful photographs! So you are welcome! One thing though your link is wrong...this violet in your photo is not the northern white violet...if you look close at the purple markings and shape of your photo compared to your link linking it to the northern white violet they are not the same...I know this from living in Muskoka for many years and painting flowers and hunting for wild plants for identification for myself....It is as my first comment states the "viola canendensis" I am always happy to be proven wrong but in this case I don't believe so as when I finally found a tiny "stand" I was so taken with its beauty that I lay on my belly breathing...looking looking for all of space and time HAHA.
